Complex Task at Channel 3

The Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society has been invited by the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation to do an abbreviated version of Shakespeare's “The Taming of the Shrew" in the studio of Channel 3. It will be the largest and most complex dramatic undertaking attempted on New Zealand television. The half-hour programme will be produced in four sets by the society's producer. Mr John Kim. in co-operation with Mr P Wilbraham, of Channel 3. The sets will be linked by narrative.

Eighteen of the original 24 actors who appeared in the recent production in the Repertory Theatre will take part in the abbreviated version. The main roles will be as before with Katherine being played by Jennifer Barrer and Petruchio by Mervyn Glue. The camera direction will be by Mr W. R. Taylor and the set design by Mr C. Leeming, the scene artist for Channel 3. The production will be recorded on June 23
