THE BRIDGE - A STORY OF MEN IN DISPUTE
The Mangere Bridge dispute was the long-est industrial stoppage in New Zealand history. Independent film-maker Gerd Pohlman's crews covered the strikers from the early winter months of 1978, when a quick settlement seemed possible, and even likely through the series of dashed hopes, internal wrangles and the final compromise which led to the end of the dispute in December, 1980. His film is the story not so much of an important indus-trial dispute as an inside look at the effect of the conflict on the workers, their unions and their families. (Final)
