Gianni Schicci is the only comic opera by Giacomo Puccini. It is set in Florence, Italy, in 1299 and is based on a true story, told by Dante in his Inferno. (R).
Buoso Donati, the rich Florentine merchant, has died and left his money to the church. Before the news of his death gets out the family persuades a local char-acter, Gianni Schicci to impersonate Donati and change the will. He does so. with unexpected consequences.

A grotesque opera in 14 scenes by Gian Carlo Menotti. The scene is a small town in the 1950s: a clean town, a Christian town, where a high moral tone is set by Miss Todd and her next-door neighbour Miss Pinkerton. A tall, dark and hand-some stranger arrives and feminine hearts flutter. But is he a man with a record of violence and rape who escaped from the county jail? The town will never be the same.
