Sutton, Bob

Mr  Sutton began working in broadcasting since 1961, the year after he came to New Zealand from Britain. He worked as an announcer for a few weeks in Christchurch and was then "promoted" to 3YZ Greymouth for four and a half years. One of his colleagues during that time was Bill Toft. It was there, too, that he met Noelene East, a former Miss West Coast, who later became his wife.

In 1965 Sutton returned to Christchurch, worked for 3ZB and 3YD (now 3ZM) and then went back to Britain for five and a half years and worked for Southern TV, BBC television and Radio 4, news reading.

When he returned to New Zealand in 1973 the NZBC "didn't want to know" him, so he went to Radio Avon where he worked as a newsreader/journalist. He joined TV1 in 1975 and joined The Mainland Touch
