I'm told from a colleague of Mr Drury that it was a requirement that only those who had graduated from what was known as the annual producers’ course could produce a programme, and one of the rituals was that those who passed (quite a few did not) got to keep the stopwatch that had been issued to them weeks earlier when the course began.
